Description
The Kalmar Castle is a fascinating fortress with a rich history dating back to the 12th century.
Originally built as a defensive tower, it was transformed into a Renaissance palace during the reign of the kings of the Vasa dynasty. It was here that the Kalmar Union was concluded in 1397, uniting Sweden, Norway and Denmark under a common monarch.
Today the castle impresses with its perfectly preserved architecture, interactive exhibitions and stories of medieval battles and political intrigue. History lovers will appreciate the wealth of exhibits and the atmosphere of this unique place.

TheTasteSensation2 weeks agoDon't miss the castle if visiting Kalmar! The mummy exhibition is both interesting and fascinating at the same time. Make sure to set aside a half day if you want to go through the castle & mummy exhibition the same day. Comfortable shoes, you will be stepping stones for hours. The park outside the castle is very nice to relax in. You can find rare trees and flowers planted there, each with a little sign of name and year it was planted. Some are very old.

Kirk Wilsona month agoSo so castle as European castles go. Probably interesting for kids, but the “restored” rooms were nothing spectacular. It took less than an hour to see it all.Related categories
