Description

Hohenschwangau Castle is a fairytale mansion with a rich history dating back to the 12th century. Its distinctive yellow facade and three round towers create a picturesque view against the backdrop of the Bavarian Alps.

It is the place where King Ludwig II grew up and is famous for its more than 90 wall paintings depicting medieval romances and regional history. The castle's interiors, designed in the romantic Gothic style, impress with their harmonious combination of architecture and art.

For lovers of history and culture, this is a unique opportunity to learn about the life of the Bavarian royal family and admire the works of artists such as Moritz von Schwind.

avatarMichele Peghiniin the last weekMust visit. 2 fairytale castles in a beautiful valley, even when it rains. Make sure you buy tickers well in advance as they sell out months ahead. Accessible by foot, bus or horse carriage. Highly recommended also visiting Marienbrùcke bridge, which is free and has stunning view of the castle
avatarPeter Senoa month agoAfter visiting Neuschwanstein Castle, this is the second most visited place here. The tour also lasts about 30 minutes, the interior seemed more beautiful to me than in the castle. I also recommend buying tickets in advance online, they can be combined according to your interests, what you want to see. It takes about an hour to walk between the castles at a moderate pace, so give yourself enough space between the entrances to avoid stress.
avatarOli Hutta month agoThe castle tour is very good but it's a shame you aren't able to look around at your own pace. There are a lot of paintings with writing and I would have liked to actually read what they say. It isn't a huge amount of writing, but you can't read it in the small time you have in each room. The tour guide was excellent, but the setup is designed to churn through lots of people and take their money rather than letting you actually explore the castle a bit.
