Cafe Naftalin K is a charming cafe in Istanbul's historic Balat district. The place impresses with its nostalgic decor full of antiques, old gramophones and unusual elements, like a bathroom door made from an old refrigerator.

On the menu you'll find aromatic Turkish coffees, including spiced Mardin Kahvesi, homemade pastries and snacks like menemen and cheesecake. The café is famous for its friendly atmosphere and resident cats, who stroll freely among the vintage decorations.

It's the perfect place for cat lovers, retro style enthusiasts and seekers of authentic local experiences.

avatarSalim Chamseddine3 months agoAs soon as you enter, you are greeted by friendly cats. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the decor is charming. The drinks are excellent and the staff is very friendly. They even treated us to delicious cat-shaped cookies. Highly recommended if you are in the Balat area.
avatarSonia “SoniaM” D4 months agoSuper lovely and original boho cafe with delicious coffee and breakfast and excellent service. We tried Kurdish coffee, cheese omelette and Naftalin toast. The decor is original with many vintage items plus access to the toilet is through a fridge door! Resident cat is a plus🐈
avatarNesam Ha3 months agoCafé Naftalin has a cozy atmosphere, especially with the cats roaming around the café — they definitely add a charming touch to the place. The coffee was decent, with good flavors, and made for a nice break. The food, however, was pretty average and took about 30 minutes to arrive, which felt a bit too long. Service could also be better. We had to move tables because we were two people sitting at a table for five — even though that table stayed empty the entire time we were there. It didn’t feel very welcoming. Overall, worth a visit for the coffee and the cats, but don’t expect too much from the service or the food.
