Description
Reserva Natural Tartaruga is a protected nature reserve on the island of Boa Vista, one of the most important nesting sites for loggerhead turtles in the world. From June to October, the golden beaches of the eastern part of the island are teeming with life – hundreds of turtles lay their eggs here under the cover of night.
Night patrols with guides offer an almost 100% chance of observing these majestic creatures. The waters of the reserve are also home to dolphins, whales, lemon sharks, and colorful coral reefs. Conservation organizations are carrying out spectacular activities here – thanks to patrols with dogs and drones, poaching has been reduced from 600 to 60 turtles per year.
