Description
The Zlota Gate is one of the most beautiful monuments of Gdansk, being an impressive example of Dutch Mannerist architecture.
Erected in 1612-1614 by Abraham van den Blocke, it impresses with its rich ornamentation and allegorical sculptures symbolizing the qualities of an ideal citizen: Peace, Liberty, Wealth and Fame on the one hand, and Concord, Justice, Piety and Prudence on the other.
It was one of the few buildings to survive the bombing of World War II, becoming a symbol of the city's resilience. Walking along the Royal Route, it is worth stopping to admire the Latin inscriptions and intricate architectural details.
