Bosque del Recuerdo

Bosque del Recuerdo is a unique memorial park located in Parque del Retiro in Madrid. This moving memorial commemorates the 191 victims of the 2004 bombings and a special forces officer who was killed during the siege.

The hill is planted with 192 olive and cypress trees, one for each victim, surrounded by a channel of water symbolizing life.

Originally named the Forest of the Lost (Bosque de los Ausentes), it was renamed the Forest of Remembrance at the request of the victims' families. It is a place of reflection and reverie that is an important part of Madrid's cultural and historical landscape.
