Description
The Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption is a pearl of sacred architecture in the heart of Plock. This three-nave temple with a transept impresses with its combination of Renaissance, Mannerist and Baroque styles.
Erected in 1531-1534 on the initiative of Bishop Andrzej Krzycki, it conceals numerous marble tombstones, altars and bronze reliefs.
A unique feature is the portal with a bronze bas-relief depicting the offering of the temple to Our Lady of Mazovia. It is not only a place of worship, but also a witness to history - the rulers of Poland, Ladislaus I Herman and Boleslaus III the Wrymouth, are buried here.
