Description
The Bavarian National Museum is one of the largest and most important decorative arts museums in Europe. Founded in 1855 by King Maximilian II, it displays an impressive collection of European artifacts from late antiquity to the early 20th century.
The museum is famous for its extensive collection of sculptures, paintings, textiles, stained glass, tapestries and Nymphenburg porcelain. It also has the world's largest collection of Christmas cribs, including stunning Neapolitan scenes from the 18th century.
The building itself, designed in the historicist style by Gabriel von Seidel, is an exceptional example of museum architecture of its time.
