Description

Basilica di Santa Croce is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture in Lecce. Its richly decorated facade impresses with intriguing sculptures of animals, grotesque figures and floral motifs.

The basilica's interior, with a Latin cross layout, conceals 17 altars of rich ornamentation and an impressive wooden coffered ceiling. Particularly noteworthy are the altars of St. Francis of Paola, with a Baroque work by Francesco Antonio Zimbalo, and St. Orontius, with a votive cloth credited with saving the city during the 1743 earthquake.

It's a paradise for art and history lovers, where every detail tells a fascinating story.
