Description
The Vauban Barrage is an impressive 17th century dam built by the famous military engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. This historic 120-meter-long fortification, made of pink sandstone, was originally used to defend Strasbourg from enemies by flooding the southern part of the city.
Today, it is a unique vantage point offering a breathtaking panorama of the Petite France district, the Covered Bridges and the UNESCO-listed historic center of the city.
The rooftop terrace is a photography lover's paradise, and the interior gallery showcases the sculptures and history of this remarkable structure.
