The Capitol

The Capitol is a unique cultural venue in the heart of Melbourne. Designed in the Chicago-Gothic style by Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, this historic theater impresses with its extravagant decor and abstract motifs.

The most impressive feature is the geometric ceiling with thousands of colored lights, designed to resemble the walls of a crystalline cave. After an extensive renovation in 2014-2019, traditional incandescent lights were replaced with digital LEDs, creating even more spectacular lighting effects.

As the oldest of Melbourne's great cinema palaces, it offers unforgettable cultural experiences, from film festivals to theater performances and concerts.
