Description

The Piast Woj Rabbit is one of 15 unique rabbit sculptures forming the Royal Route in Gniezno. This particular statue depicts a trained and armed soldier from the Piast dynasty, highlighting the military might of Poland's first capital.

When visiting the site, you can use the 'Rabbit GOń' app, which turns exploring the city into an interactive educational game. The app guides you not only to famous landmarks, but also to lesser-known, fascinating places.

An interesting fact is the etymological connection of the word 'rabbit' with the word 'king', which adds an educational dimension to the whole tour.

avatarSergiusz2 years agoDuring the Piast dynasty, a voyov was a highly trained, armed warrior – a member of a prince's troop. Voyov defended the lands of their rulers and participated in military expeditions. The challenge of having a troop was maintaining it, which in turn necessitated almost constant fighting to acquire loot. The troop of Mieszko I and Bolesław the Brave – the first historical rulers of Poland – was renowned for its extraordinary combat and organizational prowess. Today, reenactments of these warrior battles can be seen at the "Royal Coronation" Slavic Culture Festival, held annually on the last weekend of July at nearby St. Adalbert's Square.
avatarDariusz Garbarz3 years agoA very interesting idea to use various figurines/statues of rabbits and thus encourage tourists to "chase" rabbits and get to know the city at the same time. Unfortunately, I was only in Gniezno for a few hours, but I already know that I will catch them all next time.
