Description
The National Gallery of Victoria is Australia's oldest and most visited art museum, founded in 1861. It has an impressive collection of more than 76,000 works of art spanning thousands of years of history and diverse artistic styles.
The gallery consists of two main facilities: NGV International on St Kilda Road, which houses the international art collection, and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia in Federation Square, showcasing Australian art. Admission to the permanent collection is free, making art accessible to all.
A third venue, The Fox: NGV Contemporary, is scheduled to open in 2028 and will be the largest contemporary art gallery in Australia.
