Description
The Archdiocese of Braga is a unique place full of history and spirituality in the heart of Portugal.
At its heart is the country's oldest cathedral, founded in 1070, which combines Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Visitors can admire the distinctive manueline towers, the richly decorated west portal and the Royal Chapel with the tombs of the parents of Portugal's first king.
The Cathedral Treasury Museum impresses with its collection of priceless works of sacred art, including the famous 'Nossa Senhora do Leite' sculpture and the iron cross used at the first Mass in Brazil.
