Description
Alto de Garajonay is the highest peak on the island of La Gomera, rising to 1,487 meters. This unique site is part of the Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO-listed site.
The peak offers breathtaking views of the entire island and neighboring Tenerife, La Palma and El Hierro. On sunny days, you can even catch a glimpse of Gran Canaria!
The laurel forest (laurisilva) surrounding the peak is a true gem - a rare ecosystem dating back to the Tertiary period, full of endemic plant and animal species.
According to local legends, the mountain was the site of ancient rituals and witches' sabbaths, which earned it the nickname 'El Bailadero'.
