Description

Sniezka is the highest peak in the Krkonoše Mountains and the entire Sudetenland, rising to 1,603 meters above sea level. Its summit offers an unusual experience - a harsh alpine climate, where even in summer temperatures can drop below zero and winds reach speeds of more than 100 km/h.

At the summit is a distinctive meteorological observatory in the shape of a flying saucer and the historic St. Lawrence Chapel from the 17th century - the highest religious building in Poland and the Czech Republic.

A variety of trails of varying degrees of difficulty lead to the summit, and by crossing the Polish-Czech border during your hike, you will experience the unique feeling of an international mountain adventure.

avatarMarta Silva3 months agoWe visited on a foggy day, the cablecar was even closed half way to the mountain top due to strong winds, so we hiked there. The path is not very long, some 6km in total. Expect lots of steep stairs and some hard ice, even in the Spring time. Even though, we couldn't see much, view wise, we still enjoyed the short adventure. Make sure to bring warm clothing... It felt like - 10 at the top due to the strong winds. The nearby parking is paid and around 1km away from the cable car station but there is a nice side trail following the water stream.
avatarPeter3 months agoThe highest peak in Czech- Bohemia, Sněžka 1603m s/l where it borders Poland. Nice hike from the Polish side of the Silesian Hut ⛰️ 😉👍
avatarDave Hänggi6 months agoReally beautiful place and area but be very careful in the winter: when leaving the gondula at the top, there is an ascend to get to the viewpoints that is so steep that lots of people had trouble and even let to a dangerous situation with one woman who had trouble walking down. Not understandable why this is not made more accessible. IMPORTANT: Generally you should wear spikes when walking any of the trails there in the winter. Some trails that seem easy at first can become extremely dangerous without spikes and there is no information, signs, warnings etc. about it anywhere. I am from Switzerland and have been to many mountains for skiing and hiking, and never have I experienced so many situations and places that made me shake my head about the lack of information and warnings about potentially life threatening circumstances. Having said that, walking from the top to the mid station of the gondula lead through a trail that, after a steep and partially quite dangerous descent, turned into what only can be described as a winter wonderland. Absolutely beautiful! With some tweaks and a better information system it could really be a top notch winter destination.
