Description
The Ajuy Caves are a remarkable natural wonder, being one of 150 recognized geological wonders in the world. These fascinating rock formations, 100-150 million years old, are awe-inspiring with intense black basalt walls typical of volcanic origin.
In the humid, deep and magical atmosphere, one can admire the layers of rock formed in the oceanic depths. The site was also an important producer and exporter of lime from the 16th to 19th centuries - remnants of lime kilns are still visible.
There is a black beach nearby, ideal for sunbathing, although swimming is not recommended. Remember proper footwear and a flashlight!
