Neans McSweeneneya year agoExcellent base from which to explore the Comeraghs. A brilliant host. A definite hit with international guests who might like to see a quality, Irish, farm family owned dairy farm in action.
Michelle Iwinski4 years agoHIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Two years later we (hubby, three teens and I) still recall this as our favorite lodging in Ireland. This is an 1830's (pre-famine!) working dairy farm. (This was a heritage trip for us, so we loved the age!) The buildings are the real deal -- made of local stone and added onto multiple times. The interior is quaint (but with very current modern kitchen and bathroom) and immaculate. In the back there's a walled terrace and hot tub, from whence you can enjoy a spectacular view of stars at night. On the advice of another review, I brought a candle and kept it burning in the kitchen (the cows are only a terrace wall away) but it really wasn't necessary. Mostly what you'll notice here is fresh air, clear skies, the smell of green grass and the sounds of swaying trees and soft lowing in the barn. As for the hosts, Mary and Gerry, I cannot say enough good things! Our favorite day of our trip was spent walking up the nearby mountain to a hidden lake, on their advice. Free $0 and just 5 min. away by car. Sheep roaming and amazing views of the entire two-county valley. Ask them about it. Also, if you're interested, Gerry will share some fresh (and instantly chilled) milk from his hormone-free cows. Take him up on it -- it's like nothing you've ever tasted in the US (SO GOOD). We are biding our time (pandemic) and saving our money to get back to IE and this place. (Mary & Gerry - We hope you're doing well & that we see you again soon! Until then, we have a treasured pic of your place on our kitchen wall. ☘️)
