Description
The Abbey of Hailes is a fascinating monument of medieval Cistercian architecture. Founded in 1246 by Richard, Earl of Cornwall, it became an important pilgrimage site thanks to a relic of the Holy Blood donated in 1270.
Despite the destruction, the impressive ruins of the monastery and the preserved medieval wall paintings take you back to a time when the abbey was teeming with religious life. An on-site museum displays artifacts discovered during excavations.
This is the perfect place for history and architecture lovers, offering a peaceful atmosphere and the opportunity to explore the fascinating past of one of the last Cistercian houses founded in England.
