Central trails of Krynica-Zdrój

A hike in Krynica-Zdrój is best started from the Deptak (Dietl Boulevard Street), which is the heart of the resort and the main landmark. It is here that you will find the beginning of many hiking trails, as well as a tourist information point where you can get maps and up-to-date information about the trails. The promenade is open 24 hours a day, offering access to numerous cafes and restaurants where one can prepare for a hike or relax afterwards.

From the Boardwalk, head toward the Trail Junction, which is a key landmark for hikers. It is located in the northern part of the city and can be reached by following the signs. The trail junction offers a choice of different routes with varying levels of difficulty. It is an ideal place to plan further hiking, as trails leading to the most interesting areas of Beskid Sadecki converge here.

One of the most popular routes is the trail to Gora Krzyzowa (813 meters above sea level), especially recommended for families with children. The route is well marked and relatively easy, and the summit offers a beautiful panorama of Krynica-Zdroj and the surrounding peaks. At the top is the upper station of the ski lift, where you can rest and use the covered picnic areas. The entire route takes about 2-3 hours round trip, depending on your walking pace.

The queen of Beskid peaks -. Jaworzyna Krynicka

The most important hiking destination in the Krynica-Zdroj area is undoubtedly Jaworzyna Krynicka (1114 m). It is a majestic peak offering some of the most beautiful views in Beskid Sądecki. Several trails of varying difficulty lead to the summit. The most popular route leads from the center of Krynica-Zdroj (red trail), and takes about 3-4 hours to complete. For less skilled tourists, a gondola lift is available, which takes you to the top all year round (except during maintenance periods).

Before setting off for Jaworzyna, it is worth reading the weather forecast and preparing yourself accordingly. The following will be necessary: comfortable trekking shoes, appropriate clothing (including rainwear), a supply of water and snacks. At the summit there is a hiking shelter offering hot meals and drinks. It's also worth remembering to bring a camera, as with good visibility you can admire the panorama reaching all the way to the Tatra Mountains.

The route to Jaworzyna Krynicka is well-marked and well-maintained, but remember that it is a demanding mountain trail. Along the way there are rest areas and viewpoints. Particularly attractive is the hike in late summer and early autumn, when the Beskid forests shimmer with all their colors.

Practical tips for hikers

When planning hiking trips in the area of Krynica-Zdrój, it is worth remembering a few important points. First of all, you should adjust the route to the capabilities of all participants of the trip. For families with children, shorter routes are recommended, such as the walk to the Krzyżowa Mountain or the area around the Deptak. More experienced hikers may be tempted to take longer trips, including an ascent of Jaworzyna Krynicka.

Essential equipment for a hiker should include:

  • Comfortable, waterproof trekking shoes
  • A backpack with a supply of water and snacks
  • A tourist map or an app with offline maps
  • A rain jacket (the weather in the mountains can be changeable)
  • A cell phone with a charged battery
  • A basic first aid kit

It's also a good idea to plan your route to start your hike early in the morning, especially during the summer season. This will avoid the peak heat and crowding on the trails. A good starting point is always the Deptak in Krynica-Zdroj, where you can park your car and make use of the city's facilities before heading to the mountains.

Let's also remember the safety rules in the mountains: don't go off the marked trails, inform your loved ones about the planned route and the expected time of return, and in case of uncertainty about the weather or your own strength, it's better to turn back. It is also a good idea to write down the numbers for the GOPR and check the weather forecast before setting out on the trail.
