Magnate splendor and archaeological discoveries
Our journey begins with a visit to one of the most magnificent magnate residences in Poland - the Museum-Castle in Łańcut. This impressive palace complex, located at 1 Zamkowa Street in Łańcut, is a true pearl of residential architecture. To reach the castle, the most convenient way is to take the train service to Lancut, and then walk or use local public transportation.
The castle is open to the public all year round, but opening hours vary depending on the season. For up-to-date information, visit the castle's official website. Entrance tickets can be purchased at the museum's ticket office or online, which is especially recommended during the summer season, when the number of visitors is highest. Ticket prices range from 35 to 45 zlotys per person, depending on the tour chosen.
Visiting the castle is a real trip back in time. Richly decorated interiors, collections of artworks and mementos of the Lubomirski and Potocki families will delight both adults and children. We particularly recommend a visit to the famous Ballroom, the Grand Dining Room or the unique Turkish bath. Special educational routes have been prepared for the youngest, which present the history and curiosities of the castle in an accessible way.
After exploring the interiors, head to the English-style park surrounding the castle. It's a perfect place for relaxation and a family picnic. The park also has a historic carriage house and stables, which are an additional attraction, especially for horse lovers.
From Lancut, we head south to the village of Trzcinica, where another fascinating journey through time awaits us. The open-air archaeological museum 'Karpacka Troja', located at Trzcinica 646, is a place that will take us back over 4000 years. The open-air museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, and you can check the current opening hours and ticket prices on the official website.
Karpacka Troja' is a reconstruction of an ancient Bronze Age and early medieval defensive settlement. The open-air museum features reconstructed huts, ramparts and gates. The tour begins with the viewing of a film introducing the history of the site, which is especially helpful for children to understand the historical context.
The tour includes a walk around the fortress, where you can see what daily life was like for our ancestors. There are a number of interactive attractions for children, such as clay pot making workshops and archery lessons. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about history and archaeology in a hands-on way.
It is worth planning at least 2-3 hours to visit the open-air museum. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain is hilly and the tour includes many stairs. During the summer season, it's a good idea to bring headgear and water to drink.
In the vicinity of 'Karpacka Troja' there are also several other interesting places worth visiting, such as the Podkarpackie Museum in Krosno or the 'Prządki' nature reserve, which we will tell you about in the next part of our trip.
Natural wonders and prehistoric rocks
The next stop on our route is the fascinating Prządki nature reserve, located in the town of Korczyna, by the provincial road DW991. This is a place that will delight both nature lovers and geology enthusiasts. The reserve is open all year round, and admission is free.
To reach the reserve, it is best to use a car. Parking is located directly on the road, opposite the entrance to the reserve. It is free of charge, but be aware that it can be crowded on weekends and holidays.
The main attraction of the reserve are the impressive rock formations, reaching up to 20 meters high. These rocks, formed from Ciężkowice sandstone, have taken on fanciful shapes due to erosion processes. Each of the larger rocks has its own name, which further stimulates visitors' imagination. Among them you will find such formations as Prządka-Matka, Prządka-Baba, Herst and Madej.
The walking route through the reserve is relatively short - it takes about 30-45 minutes. It is an ideal length for families with children. The path is well marked and mostly easy to walk, although it can be uneven or slippery after rain in some places. It is advisable to bring comfortable trekking shoes.
For children, a visit to the Prządki Nature Reserve can be a fascinating lesson in geology and nature. They can try to identify shapes in the rocks while learning about the processes that shape the Earth's surface. Halfway along the route there is a covered rest area where you can take a break and eat the provisions you brought with you.
It is worth remembering that the reserve is a protected place, so it is necessary to follow the rules of nature protection. It is forbidden to climb on rocks or collect plants. This is a good opportunity to teach children respect for nature and the rules of behavior in protected areas.
There are several other attractions near the Prządki Nature Reserve that are worth including in your trip plan. One of them is Kamieniec Castle in Odrzykon, about 3 km away. These are picturesque ruins of a medieval castle, which can be an interesting addition to our trip back in time.
After visiting the Prządki Nature Reserve and the surrounding attractions, we head toward the Bieszczady Mountains, where another unusual adventure awaits us. In the village of Uherce Mineralne, at Uherce Mineralne 62a, there is an unusual attraction - the Bieszczady Bicycle Draisine.
This unique attraction allows you to ride in bicycle draisine on disused railroad lines, offering unforgettable views of the Bieszczady landscapes. The thrill rides are open from spring to autumn, and you can check the official website for exact opening dates and service times.
A ride on the drainages is great fun for the whole family. There are two routes to choose from - a shorter one of about 6 km and a longer one of 9 km. The ride time is about an hour or an hour and a half, respectively. Ticket prices range from PLN 130 to 140 for a handcar, which can accommodate 4 to 5 people.
It is advisable to reserve a seat before setting off, especially during the summer season and on weekends. Reservations can be made through the website or by phone. You should arrive at the site about 15 minutes before the scheduled departure.
A ride on a railroad handcar is not only an attraction, but also an excellent lesson in railroad history and regional geography. The route leads through picturesque areas, offering beautiful views of the Bieszczady forests and hills. There are also stopping points along the route where you can rest and admire the surroundings.
For the safety of children, each handcar is equipped with seat belts. It is worth remembering to dress appropriately - comfortable shoes and a warmer sweatshirt even on a summer day can come in handy, as the temperature in the forest can be lower than in the open.
This part of our journey through the Subcarpathian region combines elements of nature education, history and active recreation. Both the Prządki Nature Reserve and the bicycle thrill ride are attractions that will remain in the memory of the whole family for a long time, offering unique experiences and beautiful memories of the Subcarpathian adventure.
