Description
Cowdray House is one of the most important early Norman houses in England. Built in the 1620s, this fascinating monument was visited by King Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I.
The site is shrouded in a mysterious legend about a curse cast by a monk of Battle Abbey, which foretold destruction by fire and water - which reportedly came true during a fire in 1793.
The surviving Kitchen Tower is the only part of the mansion that still survives today. During the tour, visitors can admire the Renaissance architecture, ornate portico and vault with emblems of the Tudor dynasty.
