Description
Upton House is a unique 17th century estate where history meets art and nature. Built of local yellow sandstone, the house conceals an impressive collection of porcelain and artwork amassed by the 2nd Viscount Bearsted.
The stunning terraced gardens, designed by Kitty Lloyd-Jones in the 1920s and 1930s, offer a rare Marsh Garden on the site of medieval fish ponds. Spacious lawns with massive cedars, tea beds and a lake with water lilies create a picturesque setting.
The interiors combine Carolean style with Art Deco elements, particularly evident in the Lady Bearsted bathroom with aluminum walls.
