Description
Wellington Statue is a monumental horse statue of impressive dimensions - 30 feet high and weighing 40 tons! Made of bronze from cannons captured during the Battle of Waterloo, it commemorates Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, the victor of that famous battle.
Originally placed on Wellington Arch in London in 1846, it caused controversy with its size. After several moves, it found its place in Aldershot in 1884.
Restored in 2004, today it impresses with its detail and monumental form, serving as a symbol of British military heritage and national pride.
