Description
Archaeological Area of Roca Vecchia is a fascinating archaeological site located on the Adriatic coast of southern Italy.
It is one of the most important proto-historic settlements in the Mediterranean, famous for its impressive Bronze Age (2nd millennium BC) fortifications, which have been destroyed and rebuilt several times.
The site shows cultural hybridization with Minoan and Mycenaean elements, evident in the variety of pottery found. An additional attraction is the Grotta della Poesia, a natural cave used for cultic practices, containing Messapian inscriptions and considered a place of outstanding natural beauty.
