Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica National Shrine

The Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows is an impressive example of Italian Renaissance architecture in the heart of Chicago. The interior impresses with a cradle vault rising to a height of 24 meters, decorated with more than 1,100 gilded panels.

A dazzling Carrara marble altar, magnificent murals and a replica of the Volto Santo create a unique atmosphere of spirituality.

As one of only three churches in Illinois honored by the Pope with the title of basilica, the site is a unique combination of history, art and faith, attracting both the faithful and lovers of sacred architecture.
