Description

First Nations Garden is a unique cultural space in Chicago, created by the Intertribal community.

The garden serves as a healing place for indigenous people to grow their own food and medicinal herbs. Twelve murals painted by artists in 2020 depict Aztec and Mesoamerican symbols, highlighting the connection between Chicago's urban Indians and Tenochtitlan.

The garden uses phytoremediation - plants such as tobacco and sunflowers clean the soil of contaminants. It is not only a gathering place, but also an educational space that promotes knowledge about indigenous culture and the environment.
