Description

DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center is the oldest independent African American museum in the US, celebrating 62 years of operation.

This unique place dedicated to African-American history and culture offers fascinating exhibitions, including 'Freedom: Origin and Journey' and an exhibit dedicated to Chicago's first black mayor.

The building has special historical significance - it is the first building in downtown Chicago owned by an African-American and the only skyscraper in the city designed by a black architect. The collection of 13,000 artifacts includes the desk of activist Ida B. Wells and the violin of poet Paul Laurence Dunbar.
