Description
Reigate Fort is a fascinating military monument built in 1898 as part of London's 72-mile defense system against a potential French invasion.
The fort impresses with its unique military architecture, including the Ammunition Depot, underground Casemates and the Tool Depot. Of particular interest are the decorative window grilles in the casemates, made in the shape of roses.
The site also hides a tragic history - in 1945 an American B-17G bomber crashed into a nearby hill, killing its entire crew. The event is commemorated by a special monument.
