Description
Deal Castle is an exceptional artillery fortification built by Henry VIII between 1539 and 1540. This remarkable example of Tudor defensive architecture impresses with its unique design consisting of concentric circles of walls and towers.
As you explore the castle, you'll discover 15-foot thick walls with cannon ports, the Great Hall, the Governor's quarters, the armory and the chapel. Each room tells a fascinating story of life in Tudor times.
Deal Castle was part of the coastal defense program, along with nearby Walmer and Sandown castles, protecting England from invasion from France and the Holy Roman Empire.
