Description
Battle Abbey is a historic monument commemorating the landmark 1066 Battle of Hastings. The abbey was founded by William the Conqueror as penance for the bloodshed during the Norman Conquest.
As you visit the site, you can admire the medieval ruins of the dormitory, parts of the cloisters and the impressive entrance gate with an exhibition on the abbey's history. The main altar marks the spot where, according to legend, King Harold II died.
A state-of-the-art visitor center with multimedia museum allows you to immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the battle that changed the fate of England forever.
