Description
قلعة الخريس (Qasr Al Hosn) is the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi, witnessing the emirate's rich history. Originally built in 1761 as a watchtower, it was later expanded into a fort and then into the ruler's palace and seat of government until 1966.
Called the 'White Fort' because of its distinctive color, it is an architectural jewel of the region. It was a political center in the past and commanded a fleet of more than 400 pearl boats in the late 1800s.
It is not only a monument, but also a vibrant cultural center, hosting exhibitions and art events.
