Description
Halil Pasha Tower is an impressive part of the Rumeli Hisarı fortress in Istanbul, erected on the orders of Sultan Mehmed II between 1451 and 1452.
This twelve-sided tower, 22 meters high and 23.3 meters in diameter, impresses with its unique Ottoman architecture with geometric patterns inspired by wooden craftsmanship.
Its top offers a spectacular view of the Bosphorus Strait. The 6.4-meter-thick walls conceal wooden floors with stoves and massive conical roofs covered with lead - a testament to the practical and ingenious approach of Ottoman builders.
