Description
Shirley's Rock is a fascinating rock formation in the western Isles of Scilly, part of a protected natural area.
This unique site is famous for its breeding colonies of rare seabirds, including the storm caller - the only such breeding site in England. The area managed by the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust is home to eleven species of seabirds and a colony of gray seals.
Geologically, the rock is part of the Cornubian Batholith - a massif of ancient volcanic rocks with prominent quartz and tourmaline crystals, offering a fascinating insight into the geological history of the region.
