Santa Barbara Chromatic Gate

Santa Barbara Chromatic Gate is an impressive 21-foot sculpture located on Cabrillo Boulevard. This colorful structure consists of six brightly colored arches arranged in a rainbow gradient - from yellow, orange, red, pink, purple and blue.

Weighing 12.5 tons, the gate was designed by famous Austrian artist Herbert Bayer, who spent the last decade of his life in nearby Montecito.

From different perspectives, the gate creates a fascinating optical illusion, making it ideal for photographers and art lovers. It is a unique symbol of creativity and joy that delights locals and tourists alike.
