Friends of the Chicago River

Friends of the Chicago River is the only organization fully dedicated to protecting and restoring the 156-mile Chicago-Calumet River system. Since 1979, they have been working to create a healthier environment for people, water and wildlife.

The organization runs numerous educational programs and field projects that engage the community. The McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum, which they run and is housed in a historic building on the Chicago Riverwalk, is well worth a visit.

You can join as a volunteer in activities such as Chicago River Day or River Action Days and actively contribute to the protection of this valuable urban ecosystem.
