Description
Desert Tortoise Research Natural Area is a unique 39.5 square mile preserve located in the western Mojave Desert. It is the perfect place for nature lovers who want to see endangered desert tortoises in their natural habitat.
The reserve is famous for having one of the highest densities of desert tortoises in the region. In addition to tortoises, American badgers, ground owls, desert foxes and many other species can be found here.
The best time to visit is early spring, when the tortoises come out of their burrows to forage on flowers and vegetation. Four nature trails with marked stops allow you to learn about the Mojave Desert's unique flora and fauna.
