Description
St Michael Catholic Church in Old Town is a unique historical landmark that survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.
The church impresses with its 19th century Romanesque red sandstone brick architecture and impressive tower with a clock and five bells.
The interior, in the Bavarian Baroque style, hides real treasures: stained glass windows made by the Mayer Window Institute of Munich, vivid frescoes and the 'Last Supper' sculpture from the 1893 Columbian Exposition.
It is a place of deep spiritual and cultural significance that has also become a mainstay for the local Puerto Rican community.
