Description
Parowan Gap Petroglyphs is a fascinating archaeological site with more than 1,500 cave engravings.
Here you will find 90 panels with a variety of patterns: geometric shapes, animals (lizards, snakes, mountain sheep) and human figures. Some petroglyphs are nearly 5,000 years old, although most date back to the Fremont culture of 700-1500 years ago.
The most famous 'Zipper' panel depicts an upturned man with an arrow in his skull - likely a map, solar calendar and outer mound system. It is a unique site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
