Description

Kunaram Wat is a fascinating Buddhist temple on the island of Koh Samui, known mainly for the mummy of the monk Luang Pho Daeng, who died in 1973 in a meditative position. His body, amazingly well-preserved, is displayed in a glass case, with sunglasses on his face.

The temple offers a unique cultural experience with opportunities to learn about Thai traditions and history. You can also enjoy the traditional Kau Cim method of divination, which involves pulling sticks with numbers corresponding to specific prophecies.

Wat Kunaram is a place of peace and reflection, ideal for those seeking spiritual tranquility and a deeper understanding of Buddhism.

avatarArch Sa month agoThe mummified monk of Koh Samui is Luang Pho Daeng, a highly respected Buddhist monk whose body has been remarkably preserved since his death in 1973. His mummified body is displayed in a glass casket at Wat Khunaram. Luang Pho Daeng's mummified body serves as a poignant reminder of the Buddhist teachings on the impermanence of life and the possibility of transcending the decay of the physical body through spiritual purity and meditation.
avatarMarco Smith10 months agoIt is one of the smaller temples in the middle of the city, but still a bucket list item for the muffied monk. The temple is off the man road and quite easy to get to, and the monks are very welcoming and encouraged us to go look at the monk. There are some additional statues to see down the back on the left, as well as the school for which they are raising funds for.
