Description
The Apollo Fountain is a majestic monument in the heart of Madrid, designed by Ventura Rodríguez in 1777. The central figure of the god Apollo, holding a lyre, is surrounded by four statues symbolizing the seasons.
It's an excellent example of neoclassical architecture that was commissioned by King Charles III as part of an urban renewal project. The fountain is particularly charming at sunset, when the light reflects beautifully in the water.
It's the perfect place to take a break while visiting nearby attractions such as the Prado Museum or Retiro Park.
