Description

Fortaleza Canario is one of the most important archaeological sites in Gran Canaria. This impressive fortress, consisting of three rocks (Fortaleza Grande, Fortaleza Chica and Titana), was inhabited for more than 1,000 years, beginning in the 4th century.

The site has great symbolic and religious significance, having served as a refuge for indigenous people, as well as a space for ceremonies and astronomical observations.

The fortress offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape of the Caldera de Las Tirajanas. It was here that the last free Aboriginal leader, Bentejuí, threw himself off a cliff to avoid capture by Spanish invaders.
