Description
The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is Singapore's oldest Catholic church, with its foundation stone laid in 1843. Built in the Renaissance style, with Palladian-style porticoes, it forms the form of a Latin cross - a traditional design for many churches.
The church was elevated to cathedral status in 1888 and consecrated in 1897. It underwent significant renovations in 1997-1999 and 2013-2016, preserving its historic beauty.
The cathedral is a testament to the spread of Catholicism in Singapore and is a symbol of the unity of the different races professing the religion.
