avatarE Ta year agoThis pagoda is a very intriguing architecture located in the Kawasaki Dashi temple location. It's one of the tallest structures here, and is hard to miss. Sadly the place was not open when we visited last month, but regardless it was a sight to see. The place is well cleaned and maintained, and was not busy at all during the weekday afternoon. It's worth taking a look while walking around the Area.
avatarHiroki AZUMA6 months agoFirst visit of the year The octagonal five-story pagoda was surrounded by food stalls. Next time, I'll come and take my time.
avatar高田久司7 months agoThe octagonal five-storied pagoda (Chukkoto) was erected in 1984 to mark the 150th anniversary of the entrance of the founder of the sect, Kobo Daishi Kukai, and to commemorate the opening of the principal image, the Daishi Daishi to ward off evil spirits. The octagon is said to be the closest building shape to a circle (enlightenment and truth) and symbolizes ``tolerance'' and ``completeness.'' On the basement floor of the building is a memorial hall with Shakyamuni Nyorai as its principal image, and on the first floor are enshrined the Five Chi Tathagata of Vajra and the Eight Patriarchs of Shingon. On the second floor, there is a stone-carved Sanskrit mandala of Vajra and Womb, as well as in the center. In the main part of the temple are enshrined statues of the master, ``Eka Ajari,'' on the right, ``Kobo Daishi Kukai,'' the founder of the Shingon sect, and on the left, ``Kokyo Daishi: Kakuban Shonin,'' the founder of the Shingon sect. A statue of Vajrayana Dainichi Nyorai made of jade is enshrined in the basin below the upper ring of the five-storied pagoda.
