Description
Eiheiji is one of the two main temples of the Sōtō school of Zen Buddhism, the largest single religious denomination in Japan. Located in the mountains near the city of Fukui, it offers a unique spiritual experience surrounded by cedar forests.
The temple complex consists of more than seventy buildings, including seven main buildings: Sammon (gate), Butsuden (Buddha hall), Hatto (lecture hall), Sodo (meditation hall), Kuin (kitchen), Yokushitsu (bathhouse) and Toso (toilet).
Here you can experience traditional Zen practices such as zazen (meditation) and the transcription of sutras, and feel the atmosphere of a place where monks do their daily training.
