Description
Fajã do Calhau, also known as Fajã das Almas, is a unique geological formation on the southern coast of São Jorge Island in the Azores.
This place impresses with its picturesque landscape formed by rock slides that have created fertile farmland dotted with white houses. The area is famous for its two chapels, Ermida de Nossa Senhora das Almas and Ermida de Santo Cristo, which was built in 1876 and rebuilt after a fire in 1880.
Tradition lovers will appreciate the local handicrafts, including hand-woven wicker baskets. Also enjoy the nearby natural pools, ideal for swimming and relaxation.
