Description
Capela do Senhor da Pedra is a unique chapel built on a rock above the Atlantic Ocean in 1686. The site combines a fascinating history, having originally been a pagan place of worship for over 2,000 years.
The interior of the chapel is decorated with beautiful azulejos and three gilded Rococo-style altars, including a central one with an image of the Crucified Christ.
There are intriguing legends associated with the chapel, including a story about a wooden image of Christ found by local fishermen. During full moons, secret pagan ceremonies are said to still take place here.
