Mata Nacional do Barão de São João

Mata Nacional do Barão de São João is a unique forest located in Portugal's Algarve region. This natural treasure of some 5,000 hectares offers six marked hiking trails that will delight hikers and mountain bikers.

Some points offer scenic views of the Atlantic Ocean. The forest is equipped with a picnic area with barbecue facilities, a fitness trail with 14 exercise stations, a public restroom and a children's playground.

A variety of tree species, including pines, eucalyptus and cork oaks, create a unique environment for local flora and fauna.
