Convento São Francisco

Convento São Francisco is a historic monastery in Coimbra, combining the past with the present.

Founded in the 17th century, it has survived a tumultuous history, including the invasion of French troops in 1807. After a major renovation in 2010, it was transformed into a modern cultural center with an impressive 1125-seat auditorium.

The monument impresses with its harmonious combination of historic architecture and modern elements. The facade of the former convent church, designed by renowned architect Gonçalo Byrne, is a real gem for architecture and history lovers.
