Description

Hospicio de San Jose is the oldest social welfare institution in the Philippines, founded in 1782. Managed by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent à Paulo since 1865, this unique institution offers shelter and support to those most in need - orphans, the elderly and the disabled.

The site has great historical significance, as evidenced by two commemorative plaques - an English one from 1939 and a Tagalog one from 1977. The hospice runs a variety of programs, including practical and religious education, adoptions and temporary residential care.

It is not only a charitable institution, but also a testament to the rich history of social activities in the Philippines.
